About This Event

A Closer Look: First Days of Spring – Presented by Steven KennyDali Museum Docent and painter Steven Kenny takes an in-depth look at The First Days of Spring (1929), the semi-autobiographical narrative that indulged many of Dali’s fantasies and initiated his Surrealist painting style. During this 55 minute interactive discussion, Kenny will delve into the events and relationships that inspired Dali to create this work and bring his fantasies to life. The discussion will address collage vs. paint, composition, and specific strategies adopted from other surrealists such as deep shadows and juxtaposition to achieve his “carte de visite” for the surrealist movement.About the docent – Steven Kenny was born in Peekskill, New York in 1962. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1984. His final year of art school was spent studying independently in Rome. First gaining notoriety as a freelance commercial illustrator, Steven later devoted his full attention to fine art. His award-winning surrealist paintings are exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States and Europe.Location: William Raymund TheaterCost: Free
