“Art and science seem to be at the opposite end of the spectrum, but art is a science of its own and artists can be inspired by all things nature.”- USF College of Marine ScienceNo truer statement can be made and its clearly seen in many ways in St. Petersburg. From the works of Dali to the recent ocean-themed murals at the Shine Mural Festival – art and science are intertwined. St. Petersburg, with our focus on both, has an exceptional opportunity to foster these collaborations. On November 13th from 7-9pm the USF College of Marine Science is offering a unique look at science for artists. Artists will have the chance to look under microscopes at living plankton, see the deadly beauty of a virus infecting a cell, paint with live bacteria, and view the magnificent layers of sediment cores. After the science event, the artists will have over a month to work on their pieces, which will be shown at an art exhibit on January 8th. Artists of all levels are welcome.
