About This Event

We all know that learning is more fun when you’re drinking with friends. Nerd Nite operates in over a hundred cities around the globe including our City of St. Pete. This lecture event strives for an inebriated, salacious, yet deeply academic vibe. Several presenters totally geek out for 20 minutes each while guests drink and socialize - It’s like the Ted Talk– with beer! Drink, learn, connect, and talk about fun, interesting stuff!

Speakers Include:

Dawn Hunter

The World's on Fire!

COVID isn't the only thing that went viral these past three years.

Dawn Hunter wanted to be a neurosurgeon when she grew up. While shaky hands mean that’s probably never going to happen, Dawn is currently a public health lawyer who loves talking about chronic and infectious disease and the laws that keep people healthy. She is the person in the office spraying Lysol around sick coworkers. Dawn calls both New Mexico and Florida home, and this is her second stint in St. Pete, having previously lived here for more than a decade. Dawn misses the green chile but loves being close to the beach again.

Cathy Salustri

Disney Saves the Everglades (No, Really!)

Many people don't realize that Walt Disney World's perched at the headwaters of the Everglades. Even more people don't know about the massive undertaking The Walt Disney Company's undertaken to restore and protect those precious headwaters. Come hear about the Disney Wilderness Preserve — not only is that the only thing with "Disney" in the name that's absolutely free, its story offers hope for a world that seems like it's on fire.

Cathy Salustri, author of 'Backroads of Paradise', has a master's degree in Florida Studies. Her next book, 'The Florida Spectacular' (due out 2024) celebrates the best parts of the Sunshine State — including Disney. She owns a hyperlocal weekly paper, 'The Gabber Newspaper', and works for fan-based WDW Magazine as a copywriter and contributor.
